blows my mind that women are considered shrill and whiny when all i have to do is insinuate that male feelings are not my #1 priority at all times and every indignant male in a 500 mile radius comes out of the woodwork to let me know how they feel

I live in Ireland and I can tell you that it's a completely toxic environment for anyone with a pro choice outlook. Everywhere there are "pro life" signs and pictures of smiling white women with a baby in their arms with shit like "if you are pro woman, you are pro life". All health centres have these kind of ads and all the helplines are guilt-tripping assholes talking about how "every woman wants to be a mother deep down". Ireland is not a place where a woman's body is her own.

A “Toxic” outlook for people with a toxic viewpoint.
This is actually really heartening and great to hear.

Ah yes, a country where a pregnant person will be forced through their pregnancy, even if they’re suicidal. A place where a person’s reproductive rights are trampled all over in favor of a fetus. Great to hear!

- Emily.

Abortion is not a ‘fix’ for depression. Any psychologist, counsellor or psychiatrist can tell you that.

But letting this person live with something that actively reminds them of their attack every day, rather than granting them the right to an abortion (which they were allowed to do, since they were suicidal) is so much better.

Pro-life compassion, everyone.

- Emily.

As somebody who had suicidal urges directly caused by pregnancy, I can tell you right now that the abortion I had definitely fixed that particular episode.

And funnily enough, when I brought this up with my psych he said to call him if I discover I’m pregnant again and have the same reaction while under his care and he’d make sure I could avoid waiting lists for an abortion because he considered any future pregnancy a danger to my mental and physical health. You know, because when you’ve got tokophobia that ties in with pregnancy/baby related psychosis triggers, abortion really is a life saver.

But hey, who cares about my life when there was a 9 week fetus at stake, right?

Saving Face (2012), acid attacks on women in Pakistan

Meanwhile, in America, feminists are complaining about how dress codes are oppressive.

You idiots have never experienced oppression, and pray you never do, because this is what it looks like.

As a South Asian American feminist, let me remind everyone that oppression is not a competition.

Just because we fight one type of sexism doesn’t mean we don’t care about other instances of sexism that don’t affect us directly in our day to day lives.

My heart goes out to this woman and the hundreds of other victims like her. I want to educate people about these kinds of incidents. I support organizations that help women like this.

You may think that dress code issues are trivial, but they are related to a larger issue of women’s bodily autonomy, which affects women’s health and safety.

So please, let’s try to bring awareness and bring about change instead of insulting entire groups of people because they are facing issues that are less scary than the one presented.
